Window Handles

Window handles come in a variety of styles and colors to fit your home. They operate a locking system that is concealed within the frame. This allows you that allows you to open and close your double glazed windows.

When replacing your handle it is essential to check the length of the spindle. This is the length at which the nose extends from the base plate or how far in it goes into the lock.

Espag Handles

Espag handles are used to operate multi-point locks on double-glazed windows. The handle can be rotated around the window to improve security. Our collection of espagnolette window handles include both straight and cranked styles in a variety of finishes, including brass, chrome black, and forged.

Each handle is constructed of durable die cast zinc and powder coated or plated to provide high resistance to corrosion and impact resistance, as well as protection against wear. They are made to be used on uPVC or aluminium windows that have espagnolette or shot bolt mechanisms. They can be locked into a closed position by using either a key or a push button.

The espagnolette handle is usually a 7mm squared rod that goes through the backplate of the lever, and into the lock mechanism in the sash frame. Turning the handle activates this lock. When selecting a new espagnolette handle it is crucial to take the length of the spindle into account as this will determine how your window will open. The size of the spindle will be identified by a number on the backplate of the handle like  5" 3/4" or '2/3", and you will have to compare this with your existing handle in order to ensure that it will fit.

Cranked handles are a different design to straight handles. They can be ordered in either left-handed versions (opened clockwise) and right-handed versions (opened anticlockwise) according to the way you open your window. The cranked style is designed to provide you with more hand clearance when opening the window, ideal for windows that may be close to the frame edge.

The cockspur handle can be described as a variation of the espagnolette design, this time with a cockspur-shaped nose that closes onto a striker plate in a similar way to a multi-point espagnolette lock. This handle can be used to fix the cockspur handles that were previously used on UPVC or windows made of aluminium.

Both cockspur and cranked handle models can be fitted with a key-lock insert in order to add additional security. These are available in a choice of hand options and include a black blanking plug for those who prefer their window handle unlocked or prefer to use the handle as fire escape only.

Cockspur Handles

The cockspur handle is a very traditional window handle which has spur (triangle bit) that pushes up against the wedge that is on the frame when the handle is closed. They are usually found on older aluminium windows or uPVC casement windows that don't have an internal mechanism to secure the frame, so they depend on the cockspur handle for holding them in place.

These handles come in a variety of nose and nib heights to match a variety of profiles. They're also suitable for both left and right-hand window systems. They're the perfect solution for those looking to replace a faulty or damaged window handle that does not require more complicated internal gadgets.

Our Sparta cockspur window handle is made from high quality materials and is a well-loved choice for a variety of applications. It has a sleek, modern design and comes with a standard deadlock cylinder to improve security. It is available in various backset heights that are compatible with all sizes of common casements and can be used in conjunction with a range of matching window accessory.

In-line cockspurs are straight, and can be turned either left or right. Cranked cockspurs have an elongated "nose" that rests on a plastic plate attached to the frame. It is easy to use and can be locked or unlocked by using keys.

Espagnolette handles are typically considered to be more secure than cockspur handles since they employ a spindle that can manage multiple locks concealed within the frame. These handles are a great solution for those who need a secure handle for their double-glazing. They are available in a variety of styles to match your home.

It is important to measure your windows before buying new frames. This will ensure that the spindle and handle are the right size for the new frames. Select a product that meets the Secured By Design minimum requirements.

Tilt and Turn Handles

The benefits and functionality of tilt and turn windows are increasing. They offer a variety of opening options and can be opened in a variety of ways that aid in cleaning, allowing fresh air to enter your home, or providing an escape route for fire.

They function in a similar way to an espagnolette handle but are equipped with additional functions that make them ideal for tilt and turn windows. The lever can be placed downwards when locked to close the windows and 90 degrees to tilt it open as an opening window, or upwards to normally open the window.

They have a multipoint lock mechanism which is more effective than a double-glazed casement windows to prevent forced entry. When the handle is closed, the bottom hinge has locking pins that are embedded in a metal rail within the frame. Two more hinges located at the bottom corners can also be opened up to keep the window in position. This feature is ideal for windows with larger windows and allows for better ventilation.

The open mode is activated by turning the handle in such a way that it faces up.  upvc door handles  opens the window with a vertical tilt, which allows for better ventilation and makes cleaning much easier. The sash can be pushed to the side that is facing the windows to create a space large enough to accommodate an incline or a stool through.

Tilt-and turn handles are usually larger than espag and cockspur handles because they have to be able to handle larger and heavier frames of the same sizes. They are spindle-based, and employ the exact same type of fixings that a standard handle for cockspur or espag uses, but they will have a larger base and typically larger screw centers.

uPVC frames which are more affordable than aluminium or timber and do not require painting, are the most popular for these windows. However there are a variety of wood-effect finishes that are available. Aluminium is a different alternative for these types of windows since it can be painted in any color to match the style of your home and is lighter than uPVC.

Handles for blades or spades

It is essential to choose handles that complement the style and functionality. The closing and locking mechanisms of your uPVC window are as important as the frame. This lets you make use of them efficiently and without hassle. It is also important to make sure that the handles are of top quality and will last well, rather than breaking easily or being prone to damage.

The blade handle, also known as the spade, is one of the most commonly used kinds of handles. These are typically used on tilt and turn or casement-style uPVC windows. The lever acts as a latch, catch or multi-point locking mechanism. The catch is attached to mortice stay or peg stay, which sits within the frame of your windows. It offers extra security and stability.

These types of handles are able to be used on modern uPVC double glazed casement or tilt and turn windows. They are designed to be more ergonomic and provide more of leverage to open the window, making them easier to use. They come in different designs to match any interior style.

The handle itself will feature a spindle (7mm square) that protrudes from the back of it which is used to connect with and penetrate the gearbox of the multi-point locking system inside the window. The window can be closed and locked more securely. The handles are also available in a variety of sizes to fit different sizes of frames. Some manufacturers also offer straight and angled versions too.

It is also possible to increase the security of uPVC windows by having handles that have a key-locking system. These are great for uPVC windows and doors that are frequently used. They permit you to lock the window or door from the outside. This makes it difficult for burglars to break the handle or open the door.

There are arguments for and against a lock handle. We think it's a good idea because it can add an extra layer of security to your home. Even if you're not concerned about burglars trying to gain entry into your home, the fact that they'll encounter more difficulty getting beyond the handle of the key lock will likely discourage them and make it less of a target for them.
